Panic Disorder Treatments

Panic Disorder – Women More Prone to Panic Attacks

It is believed that as many as 30 percent of people who visit their doctor or hospital emergency unit complaining of chest pains, may actually be experiencing anxiety or panic attack symptoms, and not heart attacks or stroke. Once correctly diagnosed,  panic disorders can be treated  using a variety of anxiety medications, or more recently the preferred option, at least initially, is psychotherapy and behavioral or cognitive therapies.

Pounding heart, dizziness and sheer terror for no apparent reason are among the symptoms of a panic attack or anxiety disorder that strikes mostly women.

Three million or more Americans suffer from panic disorder which was recognized as a distinct psychiatric condition 12 years ago. Dr. Frederick K. Goodwin, director of the National Institute of Mental Health, said 75 percent of those who suffer from panic disorder do not get the help they need – although a variety of therapies can lift the paralyzing fear for 70 percent to 90 percent of sufferers.

Panic disorder, which usually surfaces during teen-age years or early 20s, affects twice as many women as men. An attack may last only seconds or minutes, but leaves a victim unsteady for some time afterward.

Fear of Anticipation

Frequently, the anticipation of having subsequent attacks is more frightening than an attack itself.

Panic disorder is diagnosed when either an unprovoked episode of at least four of the following symptoms occurs within one month, or when one such attack is followed by persistent fear of having another:

  • Intense terror
  • Sweating
  • Numbness or tingling, especially in the hands or feet
  • Hot or cold flashes
  • Shortness of breath
  • Faintness
  • Heart palpitations
  • Trembling
  • Chest discomfort
  • Feelings of unreality
  • Nausea
  • Choking or smothering sensations
  • Fear of losing control, going crazy or dying

woman panic disorder

Sufferers may be overwhelmed by a sense of impending doom and a feeling of unreality. They often think they are having a stroke, heart attack or that they’re losing their mind, as the chest pains they are experiencing can also be a symptom of a panic attack. Some manage to function. Others are forced to give up their jobs and relationships. Many treat their condition with alcohol or illicit drugs. As many as 20 percent of these people may attempt suicide, according to Myrna Weissman, professor of epidemiology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute in New York City.

A substantial number of panic disorder sufferers develop agoraphobia, avoiding situations where they imagine an attack might occur or where help or escape would be difficult. Agoraphobics may be unable to eat in restaurants, travel in cars or planes, cross wide streets or shop in supermarkets. Some may not venture outside their homes.

The exact cause of panic disorder is unclear, but researchers believe the unpredictable attacks are prompted by a biochemical abnormality. Often the first attacks are triggered by physical or emotional stress involving loss or separation

Two parallel tracks in  treating panic disorder  have evolved over the last 12 years – medication and behavioural or cognitive therapies. Increasingly experts acknowledge that patients frequently need a combination of drugs and psychotherapy.

There is no one best approach for all patients. Treatment most be tailored to the individual. Some therapists are now trying a new behavioural technique called  panic control treatment , in which the physical sensations of fear are aroused in the therapist’s office after a sufferer is taught coping stills.

What Causes Panic Attacks

How Anxiety Attacks Are Triggered -  Treatment for panic attacks

One of the most important things about anxiety attacks is what triggers them. How will one deal with it and how small changes can help improve your life. This article will also discuss on what you should expect when seeking professional treatment and also what are the  other options  out there for you.

When seeking professional  help for anxiety attack ; a patient is usually inquired on the following aspect of his or her life, in order to find out what triggers the attacks.

1. Environmental condition
2. Family’s medical condition
3. Own personality
4. Brain chemistry
5. Past trauma

Other than the mentioned areas of a patient’s life, there are other reasons that can trigger anxiety attack such as chronic fatigue, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic headaches, sleep apnea, thyroid disorders, adrenal disorders, diabetes, asthma, ulcers, hypertension, Ritalin, migraines, particular heart conditions, drugs, epilepsy, alcohol withdrawal, inhalers/respiratory medications, weight loss drugs, steroids, etc.

panic disorder strategies

The environment in which the patient lives in can cause anxiety attacks. For example, it may be poverty, broken family or dangerous neighborhood. Even substance abuse within family member can be the cause too as well as mental disorders.

The patient’s personality also plays a major role. People with low self esteem for instance are prone to these attacks mainly because low self esteem leads to self criticism that in the end can leave the person feeling hopeless and threaten. The brain monitors the amount of feel good hormone and stressor hormones and should there be an imbalance in these hormones, this will create a problem.

Anxiety attacks can also be linked to traumatic events the patient’s had in the past. These events could be abuse, war or even natural disasters.

A patient should substantially reduce the intake of coffee, sugar and alcohol anxiety attacks. Regular exercise, drinking plenty of clean water and getting enough rest and sleep are the best lifestyle to adopt because unhealthy lifestyle can often lead to anxiety, so do take the step to  cure anxiety attacks  today.

A healthier lifestyle, coupled with treatment from qualified professionals will bring positive result for the patient. In any case, the patient should also adopt a positive attitude. The patient should be very supportive towards themselves in order to recover.

It takes a lot of will and courage to start making this significant changes to yourself. Take it one step at a time, starting with making an appointment with a health professional. Just remember, it is never too late to start.

It is not impossible of course, but it will take a reasonable amount of time so perseverance will be good to have. The effort that you put in will no doubt determine how fast you will recover too. And how much effort you will contribute will depend on how much you want to recover. Still, try to remain in balance by not getting hard or negative on yourself. Knowing that you are a victim of such unfortunate self attacks, it is possible that you start feeling negative again, so remind yourself that you are only human.

Decide your own pace of recovery and as long as you feel comfortable with your progress, move on and if you feel they burden you in any way, stop. Everything should be in perspective. Don’t attempt to do something that will put pressure on yourself because you will trigger anxiety attacks again.

Also try to form supportive networks if you did not already. Keep in touch with friends who care about you. Better yet, form a gathering of like people as these are the people who truly know what you are going through. You don’t really have to form one group of your own if you can join an existing one. The secret to success for such groups lie in regular meetings and their commitment for each other.

The road to recovery or to stop anxiety attacks lies within your mind. You have the strength to do it and it is an even pleasant journey if you surround yourself with the people who support you as well as understand what you go through.

Panic Agoraphobia

 Get relief from panic  and other anxiety symptoms and disorders. Using  Panic Away  may prove to be the one method that gets your life back on track so you can live it fully.

Agoraphobia – What You Need to Know – A quick overview of this debilitating disorder.

Agoraphobia, a word that comes from Greek meaning "fear of the marketplace", is an anxiety disorder affecting millions of Americans. Sufferers often have coinciding anxiety or panic disorders, as the key symptom of agoraphobia is a fear of being in a situation where one could have a panic or anxiety attack. Thus, many sufferers spend much of their time at home. This impedes an individual’s ability to work, maintain relationships, and live a full and normal life.

There are a number of symptoms of agoraphobia that one can look for in case you believe you or a loved one is suffering from this difficult disorder. They include -

* Extended periods of staying home
* State of being estranged from friends, family, and acquaintances
* Sense of helplessness and dependence on others
* Agitation or short-temperedness
* Confused or disordered thoughts
* Anxiety about leaving home

  agoraphobia treatment

Signs of agoraphobia typically begin during one’s early 20s, and it is more common in women than men. They also typically accompany a panic or anxiety disorder, of which there are numerous physical symptoms. Those include -

* Abdominal distress
* Chest pain
* Dizziness
* Trembling or twitching
* Lightheadedness
* Nausea and vomiting
* Numbness and tingling
* Skin flushing
* Pupils dilating

Because of the frustrating nature of this illness, people with agoraphobia are also at a greater risk for other disorders like depression and substance abuse. If you are suffering from agoraphobia, you might want to be aware of this so that you can seek medical attention for these problems as well, if the need were to arise.

There are numerous  treatment options  for agoraphobics. The most important of these is psychotherapy. Through psychotherapy, patients can learn how to manage their symptoms as well as learning coping techniques for those times when their symptoms are at their worst. Another treatment option, which often coincides with psychotherapy, is the use of anti-anxiety and anti-depressant medication. These medications help to correct the biological causes of agoraphobia by stabilizing and correcting levels of neurotransmitters in the brain. They are not a "quick fix" or "happy pills", despite popular opinion. They often take weeks before they begin to take effect and are ineffective if not coupled with coping techniques.

  treatment for agoraphobia

The causes of agoraphobia are both biological and psychological. Many people have a biological predisposition to this and other anxiety disorders. Also, traumatic events in a person’s past can contribute to this disorder.

If you think you or a loved one is suffering from agoraphobia, seek medical attention as soon as possible. This disorder, while not usually deadly, can lead to severe depression if left untreated. Also, it can lessen the quality of a person’s life by hindering them in day-to-day activities. Proper diagnosis by a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist is needed before any treatment can begin. If agoraphobia is suspected by a family doctor, it is highly recommended that you seek a second opinion from a psychiatrist or psychologist before going on any form of medication for agoraphobia.

Agoraphobia is both treatable and preventable. The vast majority of agoraphobics who receive proper treatment go on to lead full, normal lives and are not hindered in any way by their disorder once it’s under control. If you believe this could be your diagnosis, please contact a psychiatrist or psychologist immediately and schedule an appointment. Stop staying at home and start living life again without fear. It’s very possible and very probable that, with proper treatment, you can overcome agoraphobia.

Anxiety Medication Panic Attack

Side Effects of Anxiety Medication

It is believed that anxiety medications can  cure depression and anxiety disorders . However, this is not completely true. Anxiety drugs have grave side effects that can hamper the health and well-being of an individual. For more on this, read on…

The kinds of lifestyle followed in recent times are a far cry from the peaceful and contented life led, few decades ago. The fast life of today has dragged us into an endless rat race that forces us to battle stress and anxiety in every walk of life. Recent years have witnessed a striking rise in the number of individuals suffering from anxiety disorders and depression. Perhaps, the root cause of anxiety is the fast pace of life, which has taken away our peace of mind.

True, medicines can alleviate your suffering to a certain extent. But their side effects and their long-term consequences on the overall health of an individual cannot be ignored. In fact, overuse of anxiety medications should be strictly avoided. Considering the fact that they impact general health and have certain negative side effects, it is better to stay away from them. Let us take a look at the side effects of anxiety medications.

Anxiety Medication – Side Effects

Some of the commonly observed side effects of anxiety medications are nausea, headache and dizziness. Blurred vision and skin rashes are some of the other common side effects of anti-anxiety drugs. Jaundice, fever, stiff muscles and loss of consciousness are some of the serious side effects.

Benzodiazepines that are prescribed for anxiety disorders and panic attacks can cause certain personality changes in individuals consuming them. Increased aggressiveness and violent behavior in some and depression accompanied by suicidal thoughts in others are some of the symptoms observed in patients using this drug treatment.

what do you do for anxiety attacks

With an increase in the number of individuals suffering from anxiety and stress-related disorders, there has been a rise in the use of antidepressant drugs and anxiety medications. Azaspirones, which are used for treating generalized anxiety disorders, are known to have severe side effects on pregnant women and patients of renal disorders. Certain antidepressants and anxiety drugs are known to cause hallucinations and nightmares. Sleeping disorders like nightmares are some of the other commonly cited side effects of anxiety medications.

Serotonin reuptake inhibitors that are administered for treating panic disorders can cause mild nausea, headache, sleeping disorders, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal problems. However, they cause fewer side effects than other antidepressants and anxiety medications. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors, the oldest form of antidepressants, interact with certain foods and beverages and cause elevation in blood pressure, and more life-threatening side effects.

Perhaps the most dangerous side effect of anxiety medications is the risk of addiction. In many cases, individuals who consume antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs over a long duration become addicted to these medications, making it difficult for them to leave these drugs even after their addiction treatment ends.

Considering the gravity of the side effects of anxiety medications, it is best to recover from anxiety disorders  through cognitive and behavioral procedures. In some cases, counseling can provide a solution to stress and anxiety disorders. Some of you might find a cure in holistic medicine. In my view, self-help is the best help.

Is this a panic attack?
The fear and terror that a person experiences during a panic attack are not in proportion to the true situation and may be unrelated to what is happening around them.

Stopping Panic Attacks

 Defusing Panic Attacks

How a Hypnotherapist can assist you in  defusing panic attacks  using Hypnotherapy and NLP.

Having worked with a variety of people who have panic attacks on a regular basis in my practice in St Albans, I have found that a large number of them also are outgoing, happy- go -lucky individuals at other times during their day to day life. Many of them are the "clown" or entertainer when in a social setting, or work in sales, for example. For many of them, there are very few people around them who are aware of their panic attacks and would never suspect a thing, because they just do not seem to be the "sort of person" to suffer from such a problem.

There are many different techniques that can be used to help those who suffer from panic attacks, and some therapies work better on some people than others. Personally, as a therapist based in St Albans, I find EFT, Hypnosis and some NLP techniques such as anchoring are usually helpful to know, as it is likely that one of these skills will be suitable for the client. However, in the situation described above, where the person has this dichotomous character ("sometimes I feel very calm and extroverted, other times I feel blind panic") it is worth exploring the NLP technique known as a parts integration.

A "Parts problem" occurs when there is a significant emotional event that occurs, or a serious of mild emotional events that occur in which a client has failed to enforce a boundary. What is meant by boundary enforcement is context dependent- sometimes we fail to say "no, I don’t want to…" and do something against our will. Sometimes we do not or are not able to enforce physical boundaries. Sometimes our boundaries are violated because we are too young, or too trusting to be able to speak up and say what we really want or feel.

Imagine that all of the negative emotion related to that memory, are stored in your system. But rather than having those negative feelings floating all over your nervous system, your body houses them all together within a boundary, (in the same way that it might do with the poison from a cyst or blister for example.) The boundary with the negative emotion inside is called a part, and it is apart from the rest of the nervous system.

thinking your way out of panic attacks

Whenever the nervous system "gets word from the outside" by seeing, hearing, feeling, recalling (and to a certain degree even tasting or smelling) some kind of trigger that relates to that parts existence; the part springs into action. This will have the effect of the person feeling all of the emotions, experiencing all of the behaviour and reacting with all of the characteristics associated with that parts existence without regard for the "normal" behaviour and character of that person.

Let say for example that the behavior associated with that part is "blind panic." It would go some way to explain the incongruence that the person who is usually confident experiences- "sometimes I’m really confident, sometimes I’m panicking about something insignificant…"

A parts integration works by establishing the highest intentions of both parts (the panic part and the confident part.) The highest intentions are almost always the same as each other and are simply using different behaviors in order to be met. Once they have been established as the same, and positive, the problem part can find new empowering ways of being met and the two parts can be re-integrated. This is a truly magic technique to witness.

Panic Attack and Anxiety Relief

Help for  Dealing with Anxiety Panic Attacks !

We all know that anxiety is a condition we cause. It only lingers when we don’t understand it or know how to reverse it. In general, it helps one cope. But when anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it has become a disabling disorder. And when we say panic attacks these are sudden surges of overwhelming fear that that comes without warning and without any obvious reason. It is far more intense than having anxiety or the feeling of being ‘stressed out’ that most people experience.

If you want to know on how anxiety panic attacks works you can ask anyone who has ever suffered from these kind of disorder on how horrible they feels. Yeah, I know that many of us have probably had one and just didn’t know what it was. According to statistics by www.anxietypanic.com, one out of every seventy-five people worldwide will experience anxiety panic attacks once in their lives. Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress, but when anxiety becomes excessive, even routine situations become dreaded. And here are some common symptoms of a panic attack, such as palpitations, hyperventilation, dizziness, chest pain, headache, tingling of the hands or arms, feeling sweaty or nauseous.

We should understand that these feelings of impending doom are not easy to get rid of once they start, especially when you’re sitting in a room full of people, or when you’re in the middle of Wal-Mart screaming silently in your head. Depersonalization and derealization can also occur with panic, like you are living in a dream, feeling that you are not really a part of what is going on around you, that you’re detached and looking from the outside in. As symptoms continue and intensify, avoidance behavior develops which can produce agoraphobia, causing the sufferer to restrict social interaction and retreat to safety until total withdrawal occurs. It’s important for people with anxiety panic attacks to learn all they can and be knowledgeable about the illness and the available treatments. There are many theories about what causes anxiety and panic disorder; is it biological, psychological or psycho dynamic, that is, is the disorder caused by a past experience or trauma?

Well, heres some sort of information I want to share it with you. According to my mother she used to call fear anxiety and depression the unholy Trinity. Although she was being melodramatic when she said it, it held a lot of truth for her. She always had some of the symptoms of anxiety attacks whenever things got tough for her. There are certain things she was phobic of and, no matter how much she did try to treat them, they never quite went away. Her fear anxiety symptoms, I am sorry to say, lasted from her childhood until the day of her death.

how to stop panic attacks naturally
As for me, as a parents I want to raised my own kids, I vowed that nothing would give my children anxiety attacks. Sadly, there is only so much you can do as a parent. I don’t know what it is, but my youngest ended up having the same symptoms as my mother – fear anxiety and depression. There is only so much you can do as a parent to prevent certain conditions. What I really had to do was to get the kid treatment.

separation anxiety disorder treatment
She got some relief from traditional methods. I didn’t want her to get drugs, but the doctor convinced me that anti anxiety medications would be very helpful to get the symptoms under control. Sure enough, once they were prescribed for her, she stopped having panic attacks. Then we got to the root cause of the fear anxiety. That required a lot of therapy. She went to a psychiatrist several times a week. That cost a lot of money, but it really helped her. Besides that, she started going to a children’s anxiety support group. In the long run, it worked wonders. Now she is a happy, healthy, well-adjusted kid. I am glad I stuck with her through all of it.

To all parents out there, if you have kid who suffers from fear anxiety, don’t waste time blaming yourself. It doesn’t so much matter who is at fault as what you can do to stop it. People now understand that fear anxiety is an extremely complicated thing. There is a genetic component, an emotional component, and a social component to it. Sorting it out can be a lot of work, but it is worth it. When you see your kids finally  live panic free , you’ll know what it is to be a happy parent..

how to cure test anxiety
However even  anxiety disorder recovery  is attainable, there aren’t any "quick fix," "miracle cures," or "secret remedies" for it. Anxiety recovery requires accessing the right information, help, and support, then applying the right tools to bring about lasting success. Anyone can do it when they know how and have the proper support. But, lasting results can be attained. We know what it takes to return to lasting normal health because we’ve done it ourselves.

In fact the most commonly used  treatments for anxiety, panic attacks , and phobias is a combination of medication and psychotherapy, including cognitive therapy to change negative thought processes and behavioral therapy to change daily habits. There are also drug-free therapies to induce relaxation, release tension, lower blood pressure, slow heart rate and breathing, in addition to meditation, hypnotherapy to overcome specific phobias, and other alternative therapies. For the most recent research and more about anxiety panic attacks and related topics, go online to National Panic & Anxiety Disorder News at www.npadnews.com. Information is updated regularly about new conventional and alternative treatments for anxiety disorders. If you feel like you have, or could be developing anxiety panic attacks, go online and take a self-screening test at one of many informative sites to see if your symptoms indicate an anxiety disorder.

Treatment for Anxiety Disorder

 Natural Alternatives For Panic Attacks

Home therapies date back to Medieval times, some cures have overcome millennia yet some have come and gone like a twenties fashion fad. Despite all this, home cures are still of paramount importance and they are used for all types of ailments. The nerve wrecking, anxiety or panic disorder is no exception and quite a number of alternative home remedies have been created to help elude the drastic disorder. Home therapies have a tradition that goes back hundreds of years. Some cures are still around today while others are simply forgotten. The reason home cures survive is that some of them do work for various types of disorders. Panic attacks or anxiety disorder is one of the ailments that can be tackled by  home remedies . Holistic cures have been passed down through generations. While the dubious claims of certain cures have come and gone, the  time tested cures  that do work are still being practiced today. Panic attacks and nervous disorders are two of the ailments that have received a lot of attention in the field of holistic therapy.

Most home remedies are found in the comfort of people’s homes. It may sound unpractical to walk to every doorstep interviewing the residents for any known tried and tested remedies that help sate the ravenous appetite of anxiety and panic disorder but desperate times call for desperate measures. That is why a list of some home rehabilitation methods has been drawn up to assist those with anxiety disorder plights. The collection has various roots and aims at alleviating all those unpredictable and intimidating phobias that haunt the minds of those who are suffering from incessant anxiety attacks. Every household have its own unique remedies to try and control the debilitating effects of panic attacks, and while it’s not possible to go through each house to discover them all, a list of the common ways to bring relief are listed here. The purpose of this collected information is to help calm the mind of people who are suffering from persistent anxiety attacks. Panic attacks can hit anybody, and over the years, each household has devised its own ways to treat the disorder. While it’s not feasible to go from house to house to learn them all, a short list of the common ways to treat panic attacks is collected here. Trying out some of them may be the fastest way to  overcome persistent anxiety disorders .

overcoming panic attacks
A testimonial home remedy that encourages staring the phobia in the eye is communicating with one’s body. If you are in the middle of an encounter, calming the nervous system depends on acknowledging that you are hyperventilating. Talk to yourself and let yourself know that you are indeed experiencing the feelings that you are feeling and make it known that it is okay to feel that way. Once you free your thoughts from feeling caged, the heart rate immediately does down and you will restore that sense of cool, calm and control. Another highlighted remedy is drinking water. When in the middle of breathlessness gulp one or two glasses whilst standing upright, dehydration is an effect of hyperventilation and can be reversed by hydration.

One direct way of fighting the menace is self awareness. Let yourself acknowledge that you’re over breathing and allow the moment to pass naturally. By freeing your mind from being stifled, your heartbeat will soon go back to normal and you’ll regain control once more. Another solution is to drink water. In the midst of accelerated breathing, gulp a glass of water or more while in a standing position. Hyperventilation can make you dehydrated, and to counter that, you need to drink more water. When you’re hit by a panic attack, your breathing increases and you hyperventilate. It’s important that you do not try to hold it back and instead let the episode pass naturally. Tell yourself that it’s alright to feel like this. By practicing this awareness, your heart rate will gradually reduce as tension is let go and you’ll regain calmness once more. Another recommended action is having a glass of water or two. Hyperventilating can dehydrate the body and you’ll need to replenish the fluids quickly.

Some other types of  panic attacks cure  are more concentrated with vitamins, diet and all other health effects that are correlated to anxiety disorder. Lack of vitamins and certain minerals can also contribute to anxiety attacks. Calcium, magnesium and b-complex vitamins supplements are good for the body’s mental health whilst refined sugars – artificial sweeteners, caffeine – namely coffee, tea and cola sodas, alcohol and drugs are detrimental to one’s health. The science behind the avoidance of these particular types of food is that caffeine is a stimulant and it propels the function of the body. Escalated heart rate is also a component of anxiety attack and increased heart rate can trigger an attack. On the other hand alcohol and drugs are known to use up the body’s supply of vitamins and nutrients during their metabolism. Another type of panic attacks cure concerns your diet and supply of vital nutrients. A deficiency of certain vitamins and minerals like calcium, b-complex vitamins and magnesium can trigger anxiety attacks. Try to avoid refined sugars such as artificial sweeteners, caffeine and sodas. This is because caffeine is a stimulant and can escalate the heart rate. Don’t consume too much alcohol and drugs as they can use up the body’s supply of vitamins during metabolism. Do you know that your body’s nervous system needs a constant supply of certain vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and b-complex vitamins? At the same time, avoid sugary drinks and caffeine. Coffee can be a stimulant that can trigger panic attacks. Avoid alcohol and other drugs whenever possible as they can drain the body’s vitamin and nutrient supply when metabolized, with all these helping in  your panic attacks cure .

Since anxiety causes breathlessness some home remedies on breathing technique have been developed. For starters, find a flat surface and lay down so that you can initiate breathing from the diaphragm – also known as belly breathing. Perform the following simple procedure; while breathing in through the nose simultaneously push out your tummy gently then follow with some gentle and slow exhalation through the nose and suck in the tummy. The heart rate should slow to a steady pace. If you experience some slight dizziness or light headedness then stop for a second or two then continue with the breathing exercise. After performing the breathing exercise you can reward your bravery with a nice warm bubble bath, soothing music and a nice hot drink.

controlling panic attacks
Anxiety can create a state of breathlessness. Find a flat surface and lie down to practice a belly breathing exercise where you breathe from your diaphragm, as air intake comes in from your nose, push your abdomen out at the same time. Then follow with a slow and steady exhalation through your nose while pushing your tummy back in. Your heart rate will gradually slow down. If you get light headed stop for a few seconds then continue. After the tension subsides, you can treat yourself to a warm bubble bath with calming music and a nice hot drink to reward your courage. When you feel the onset of an anxiety attack, quickly find a place to lie down and practice this breathing exercise. You breathe from your diaphragm by taking in air from your nose and expanding your tummy on inhale and then slowly exhale through your nose while deflating the abdomen. If you become light headed, stop for a few seconds then continue again. This belly breathing will naturally slow down the heart rate. As the panic sensation goes away, you can reward yourself with a hot bubble bath, relaxing music and a hot drink.

Another tried and tested  panic disorders help  method that has a legion of fans is using lavender essential oil. Dab some drops of lavender onto a cotton ball and put it in a lock zip-up bag. When you feel like you are about to experience an anxiety attack, draw the cotton ball to your nose and smell the calm and relaxing aroma of lavender. Lavender is a proven relaxing agent and will redirect the mind to a calmer state – aromatherapy always calms explosive and temperamental nerves. Some other remedies that people swear by are taking magnesium glycinate capsules and 500-2000 mg of niacinamide a day. They work the same as valium and other drugs but without the resultant side effects. In addition, a bottle of capsules costs far much less than the average bottle of valium.

Lavender essential oil is a tried and tested relaxing aroma, which can calm nervous tension and a tried and tested panic disorders help. Dab a few drops on a cotton ball and enclose it in a small plastic zip bag for use when anxiety strikes. A natural alternative to valium that works without the side effects is magnesium glycinate capsules and 500-2000 mg of niacinamide taken once a day. It’s a cheaper alternative and it works. The soothing aroma of lavender essential oil is a tried and true muscle relaxant as well as a great panic disorders help. Use a cotton ball and dab a few drops to be stashed away in a zip lock bag for use when you need it most. Instead of spending money on a valium prescription why not try a natural alternative without the side effects? You could opt for magnesium glycinate capsules and 500-2000 mg of niacinamide a day and they work the same as valium but they’re cheaper.

Holistic approaches are responsible for a number of traditional cures that are never outdated. Acupuncture, meditation, prayer and yoga are developed by experts and have always been around for those who are willing to try them out. Different people resort to different methods for the control of their disorder. The best way to find a cure that works is to be experimental and open-minded enough to give other practices the benefit of a doubt. Whilst some home remedies are restricted to people of a certain spiritual descent, Shiatsu and Tai Chi Chuan, there are other more universal treatments that are easier to adopt.

Holistic cures survive the test of time because they’re effective when needed. Meditation, yoga, acupuncture and prayer are refined by adepts and don’t cost a thing to try out. The best way to find out what works personally for you is to keep an open mind and try out some of the practices for yourself. While some practices like Tai Chi Chuan and Shiatsu are found only in certain cultures, other holistic therapies are universal and accessible to all. Alternative therapies can be complementary to conventional approaches, as they have been proven to work time and again. Meditation, prayer, yoga and acupuncture are techniques that have existed for thousands of years and they’re free to try out for anyone with an open mind. Find out what suits you best by experimenting. While Tai Chi and Shiatsu may not be available where you live, other forms of holistic care are widely available everywhere and easier to learn.

Panic Attacks Natural Remedies

 Treatments for Anxiety Attacks

Anxiety is a normal feeling. It is present in all human beings. Depending on the circumstances it may take different forms, from simple concern to anxiety and even terror.

Sometimes, it manifests itself in an abnormal way and becomes a fully fledged disease. Phobias, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder and sometimes anxiety may go out of control, giving you an overwhelming sense of dread and fear for no apparent reason. This kind of anxiety can disrupt your life with it presence, at least if they occur in unpredictable ways and unexpected., but regardless of what you have been led to believe,  panic attacks and general anxiety can be cured  in easy-to-follow steps without any medication.

Social phobia

This panic attacks are triggered by social situations where you are afraid of being judged by others. You are very interested in what your entourage and others in general may think of you.

Specific phobias

This panic attacks are triggered by a stimulus (blood, spiders, mice, snakes, heights, germs, airplanes, dog, etc..) Or a particular situation (arriving late for work, crowd, department stores, elevators, and so on. ). The object or situation is clearly defined and its presence is seen as a threat, which invariably leads to a response of the person anxiety (panic, need to drink to the point that many people can not leave without a bottle of water). This problem usually leads the subject to behave "avoidance" where possible.

Drug Free Anxiety Treatment

Natural based solutions to anxiety are best.

Many people want a  natural cure for panic attack  problems. For many years, drugs and counseling have been the only  panic attack remedy  available for sufferers. But now there are a variety of remedies available right from your own home. After discussing risk factors, causes, and diagnosis with a medical professional, you can consider working some of these natural techniques into your life.

Reduce Life Stressors

One important way to reduce the frequency of panic attacks is to reduce the level of anxiety or tension in your daily activities. Lowering the amount of stress in your life is an easy first step to reducing the amount of panic attacks. Spend more time doing the things you love to do and less time doing the things that you do not like doing. Of course we all still have to go to work, but after a long day of work, spend your evenings doing what makes you happy. Soon your day of work will be filled with anticipation over your evenings instead of anxiety over work.

Relaxation

Relaxation exercises can also be a great way to reduce your stress levels and may even fend off a pending panic attack. Continually test your relaxation abilities to help build your skills in this area. Doing your relaxation exercises on a daily and consistent basis will reduce your overall stress level. Carve out a specific time of day that is just for you. It will soon become a time that you look forward to everyday.

Exercise

Exercise is a great stress reliever for your body. Regular exercise will get your heart rate up and your endorphins moving. Your body will be able to get rid of toxins faster and relax easier when you stick to a regular exercise program. You do not need to run a marathon, just try to get your heart rate up at least three times per week for 30 minutes or more.

Support

Although many people are anxious about seeking help from a support group, they can often be the best help for an anxiety disorder like panic attacks. Being able to talk with others who are going through the same things can be very helpful. The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) has meetings in hundreds of cities across the country.
